How do I make Hibiscus tea with loose Hibiscus Flowers? Bring a tea kettle full of water to a boil. Add hibiscus flowers to a separate tea pot. Once boiled, add hot water from the tea kettle to the tea pot. Let steep for 5 minutes for the best flavor. Strain through a fine mesh sieve into your favorite mug. Sip and feel good! Hibiscus Iced Tea
Ingredients: 2 -3 cups dried hibiscus flowers; 2 quarts cold water; 1-2 cup sugar; 1 sprig mint (optional); 1⁄2 tsp vanilla extract; 1⁄2 tsp grated fresh ginger root; 1⁄2 cup lemon juice (optional)
Directions:
Briefly rinse the dried flowers in cool water. In a saucepan heat two quarts (approximately two liters) of cold water. As soon as the water begins to boil, add the dried hibiscus. Immediately remove from heat and let the flowers steep for ten minutes. Pour the water from the pot into a pitcher using a strainer (lined with a cheesecloth) to separate the flowers from the water. (Be sure not to pour any of the flower sediment into the pitcher.). Stir in the sugar. Add any other flavorings (if desired). Add ice and chill completely.
Crushed Berries Hibiscus Jelly
Ingredients: 1/2 cup sugar; 1 cup dried hibiscus flowers; 3/4 tsp unflavored gelatin; 3 cups raspberries; 3 cups strawberries; 1.5 cups blackberries; 1/2 cup crème fraîche
Directions:
Make jelly: Bring 1c water and sugar to boil in small, heavy saucepan over high heat, stirring occasionally to help sugar dissolve. Remove from heat and stir in hibiscus. Cover and steep 15 mins, then strain syrup into small bowl and discard flowers. Meanwhile, pour 1/4 cup water into another small bowl. Sprinkle gelatin over and let soften 5 min. Whisk warm flower syrup into softened gelatin until dissolved. Chill at least 6 hrs and up to 3 days. Stir the jelly to loosen before using. Right before serving, crush berries in a bowl with a fork, pastry blender, or potato masher. Spoon into 8 dessert bowls. Stir jelly with a fork to loosen, then spoon over berries. Top each bowl with a spoonful of crème fraîche and a sprinkling of pepper and ground cardamom.
Hibiscus Syrup
Ingredients: 2 cups water; 1/2 cup sugar; 1/3 cup dried hibiscus flowers; 1/4 cup brown sugar; 1/2 inch piece ginger root, thinly sliced; zest of one lemon
Directions:
Bring water, white sugar, hibiscus, brown sugar, ginger, and lemon zest to a boil. Reduce heat and let simmer until sugars dissolve and flowers soften, about 10 minutes. Remove from heat and steep syrup until flavors combine, about 5 minutes. Strain syrup into a container through a fine-mesh strainer, pressing solids with a spoon to extract as much liquid as possible. Discard solids.
